History
The founder, Tim Murphy... A self-described "auto
nut', it seems Tim Murphy, owner of Murphy Automotive was born with motor
oil in his veins. A Minnesota native, Tim's early years were influenced
by his
father's ownership and involvement with the automotive wholesale parts
business.
While
a student at Roosevelt High School, shop classes developed
Tim's hands-on repair skills and Normandale Community College provided
business management training.
At age 20, working as a technician, then as manager of the
Franklin & Nicollet 76 service station, Tim's automotive future was determined.
With his father's support as co-signer, Tim became a lease/dealer and opened
his first Mobil service station at 46th & Nicollet.
In the the next 30+ years his business expanded to include
two Grandview Tire & Auto's, Edina Tire & Auto and ProTech Automotive.
Over the years Tim became an active leader in the service
station community. This involvement led to a term as president of the 1,000
member Minnesota Service Station Association. Now known
as
MSSCSA.
Tim envisioned
a premier 'full service' automotive repair facility with staff
and equipment superior to any car dealership. Tim made his vision a reality. The
culmination of one man's ongoing commitment to total car care
and quality customer service. This is how ProTech Automotive,
both Grandview Tire & Auto's and Edina Tire & Auto came to be.
Testimonials
What others are saying...
I went to get my oil change for my car. Staff was very welcoming and friendly, and they gave me a free car wash. I highly recommend this place. You are not gonna be disappointed they know the job very professional.
-Max Harin
This shop is the best. I didn't even know they had a points system that benefits customer, but today my oil change was on the house. Thank you, Edina Grandview.

Update 3 years later: I brought in a vehicle for what I thought would be an expensive repair (ball joints and/or control arms)... They discovered loose nuts on shocks that I had replaced myself! They tightened them to spec and charged their minimal diagnostic fee. Thanks again for honesty and fair pricing!
Original review:
The team at Grandview stands behind their work! Integrity+++
Jason was professional, caring, and quick to respond to my concerns... and I'm glad I finally found an HONEST shop to bring my cars to.
My vehicle had issues after an oil change and they immediately took responsibility, provided a loaner vehicle, and made sure my vehicle was returned to me in perfect working order. I will not hesitate to return for oil changes and any other work I need in the future.

I'm a woman on a budget who is high maintenance (no apologies), asks a lot of questions, and expects respect and professionalism. I will only spend my money at a business who employs specialists who tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I do not want to be oversold, under informed, or condescended to. The crew serving at Grandview Tire and Auto on Vernon BRING it- all of it. I am writing this review following 3.5 years of Grandview servicing four cars for our family, in addition to: car purchase recommendations for teens, road trip assessments, and vehicle education- all entrusted to Dan, Jason and his daughter Caitlyn, John, JJ, Julian, Cory, Devon and the crew. Oh, and good tires, good prices (and I'm a Costco member). Several times, especially in the beginning, I knew more than I let on, and was led in the right direction; sometimes saving us money, always keeping us safe. Standard example: slow oil leak which, as it turns out, is typical of my Subaru model. Grandview assessed, and explained why it does not require the $2,200 fix (yet) recommended by the Subaru dealership (where I was required to get rebate work done). The Grandview oil crew track the notated leak when I drive in for oil changes. Two years later, my sweet 2009 Suby still running strong. Well done, Grandview. You have earned my trust, respect, and this review.

This is a note of great thanks to Kevin the Grandview Night Manager! On October 26th, 2019, my car battery was dead after I came out from Jerry's Grocery Store with 4 bags of groceries. It was 4:50 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon. My husband quickly walked across the street to Grandview on Vernon Avenue and though they were closing at 5 p.m., Kevin came back over to start my car with a portable battery charger. He went above and beyond for us that day and we are very grateful. We have had work done on our cars at the Grandview on Cahill & 70th Street in the past. So I took my car into them and confirmed that I had a bad battery. They installed a new battery and I also had an oil change done too. Thank you Kevin for helping us that day at Jerry's and thank you to Grandview for always being a company of integrity.
